She fasts from sunrise to moonrise. Here are 16 gifts that show you noticed, sorted by budget, with what to write on them and when to hand them over.
Part of our guide: Festival Gifting Calendar for India 2026–27: Dates and Deadlines

The short answer
- Karwa Chauth is on Thursday 29 October 2026 (some panchangs, such as those set to the US, show the 28th, so check yours). A personalised gift needs about two weeks, so message us now to ask what can be ready.
- Under ₹500: a name keychain, an initial handkerchief or a small frame with one photo of the two of you.
- ₹500 to ₹1,000: an everlasting bouquet in red or pink, a pair of keychains or a hand block-printed dupatta.
- Above ₹1,000: a wall clock with your wedding date, a collage frame of your year or a gift box you build yourself.
- Give it after she has seen the moon and broken her fast, with a note in your own handwriting.
She will be up before sunrise, go the whole day without food or water, dress up, sit through the puja and wait for the moon. Finding a Karwa Chauth gift for your wife is your part of the day, and a hurried box of chocolates from the shop near the office does not match hers.
Below are 16 ideas sorted by budget, what to write on them, and when to hand the gift over. Some are pieces we make, and we say so. Others cost nothing at all. Those are often the ones she remembers.
When is Karwa Chauth 2026, and when should you order?
Karwa Chauth is on Thursday 29 October 2026, according to Drik Panchang for New Delhi, a widely used panchang reference. The Chaturthi tithi runs from the early hours of the 29th to the night of the 29th, and the moon rises under it that evening, at about 8:17 PM in Delhi. A few sites, including panchangs set to the US, list Wednesday 28 October instead, so check your own city's panchang for the date and the moonrise time.
A personalised handmade gift needs about two weeks for the design proof, the making and the delivery. For 29 October, that meant ordering around 15 October. If you are reading this later, message us on WhatsApp and ask what can be ready in time. We cannot promise a date. Otherwise choose a handmade gift that is not personalised, or buy locally and add a handwritten note.
| By | What to do |
|---|---|
| Thursday 15 October | The usual last day to order something personalised. Send names in typed text. |
| Within two days of ordering | Check the design proof letter by letter and approve it. |
| Monday 26 October | The parcel should be with you. If it is not, ask for the tracking number. |
| Wednesday 28 October | Write the note by hand. Wrap the gift. Hide it. |
| Thursday 29 October | Give it after moonrise, once she has broken her fast. |
The date follows the lunar calendar, and moonrise is at a different time in every city. Check your local panchang for both.
What is Karwa Chauth, and why does the gift matter?
Karwa Chauth is a one-day fast kept mainly by married women in North India for the long life of their husbands. It falls on the fourth day after the full moon in the month of Kartik. The fast runs from sunrise to moonrise, traditionally without food or water.
The day has a shape. It begins before dawn with sargi, a meal traditionally sent by the mother-in-law. In the evening, women dress in festive clothes, often red, and gather for the puja and the katha. When the moon rises, she looks at it through a sieve, then at her husband, and he gives her the first sip of water.
The gift comes at that point, and it is a thank-you. That is why what you choose matters more than what it costs. Many husbands now keep the fast too. If you do, tell her in the morning. It will mean more than anything you can buy.
How to choose a Karwa Chauth gift for your wife
Choose something she will use or see every day, add one detail only the two of you would understand, and keep the personalisation short. A name, a date or three words is enough. The gift should feel like it could only have come from you.
- Look at what she already uses. Her keys, her dresser, the wall beside her side of the bed, her work desk. A gift that joins a daily habit gets used without effort.
- Pick one detail. Your wedding date. The name only you call her. The place you met. Not all three.
- Think about colour. Red, maroon and pink are the colours of the day. If she never wears red, choose the colour she does wear.
- Decide who will see it. A keychain is private. A wall clock in the living room will be seen by every guest, so keep its wording simple.
- Check the calendar. Made-to-order needs about two weeks. If you are late, see the last-minute section below.
Karwa Chauth gifts for your wife under ₹500
A small budget is not a problem. A small gift with no thought in it is. These five cost less than a dinner out, and each can carry her name.
1. A resin keychain with her name
₹299 to ₹449 · Best for: the wife who drives, or who has just been handed the keys to a new home. Resin is poured by hand and left to cure, and pressed flowers settle differently in every piece, so hers cannot be repeated. Use the name you call her. We make this.
2. A handkerchief with her initial
₹199 to ₹349 · Best for: a wife who likes small, pretty things. One embroidered letter in the corner, in red or pink thread on white cotton. It goes in her handbag and is there on the day too. We make this.
3. A small frame with one photo
₹349 to ₹549 · Best for: her office desk or the bedside table. Choose a photo she likes of herself, not the one you like. That is the whole secret. Add the date it was taken underneath. We make this.
4. Handmade jhumkas or earrings
₹250 to ₹500 · Best for: matching her outfit for the evening puja. Thread, terracotta or beadwork earrings from an independent maker. Find out what colour she is wearing this year. Her sister or her friend will know.
5. Her mehndi, booked and paid for
₹200 to ₹500 · Best for: every wife. Mehndi the day before is part of the ritual, and the good artists are booked out early. Book a slot, pay in advance, and tell her the time. It is not handmade by us, but it is certainly made by hand.
Gifts from ₹500 to ₹1,000
This is the range where most Karwa Chauth gifts sit. You can afford a piece with real work in it, or two small things that go together.
6. An everlasting bouquet in red or pink
₹599 to ₹1,299 · Best for: a first Karwa Chauth, or a wife who loves flowers. Fresh roses given on Thursday night are gone by Sunday. Ribbon or fabric roses stay on her dresser for years. Ask for a tag with the date. We make this.
7. A pair of keychains, one for each of you
₹549 to ₹799 for two · Best for: couples who like matching things without matching T-shirts. Her name on yours, your name on hers. Or the wedding date on both. We make this.
8. A hand block-printed dupatta
₹600 to ₹1,500 · Best for: when you want to give clothing but do not trust yourself with sizes. A dupatta fits everyone. Bagru and Sanganeri prints from Rajasthan are stamped by hand, block by block.
9. A hand-painted bangle box
₹450 to ₹900 · Best for: a wife with glass bangles in every colour and nowhere to keep them. Wooden boxes with hand-painted lids are sold at craft fairs and by makers online. Ask whether her name can be added inside the lid.
10. A T-shirt with a line only she will understand
₹499 to ₹899 · Best for: a wife who lives in T-shirts when she is not dressed up. An inside joke, the name of the café where you met, or a date. Check her size from one she already wears. We make this.
Gifts above ₹1,000
Spend more only if the gift will be used or seen every day. Otherwise, a ₹600 gift and a dinner out is the better way to spend the same money.
11. A wall clock with your wedding date
₹899 to ₹1,499 · Best for: couples setting up a home. Both names and the date on the dial, in a colour that suits the room. Ask for a silent movement if it is for the bedroom. We make this.
12. A collage frame of your year together
₹899 to ₹1,499 · Best for: a wife who takes all the photos in the family and is in none of them. Pick four to six pictures in which she appears, in the order they happened. Send them at full size, not forwarded from a chat. We make this.
13. A handloom saree or suit piece
₹1,200 to ₹3,500 · Best for: if she has mentioned a weave she likes: chanderi, kota doria, a cotton jamdani. Buy from a weaver's cooperative or a handloom exhibition, where the Handloom Mark tag tells you it is hand-woven.
14. A gift box you put together yourself
₹1,000 to ₹2,000 · Best for: when one object does not feel like enough. A keychain with her name, her favourite mithai from the shop she actually likes, a small bouquet and your note, in one box. Four things, each chosen by you.
Two gifts that cost nothing
These are not second best. Give one of them together with any gift above.
15. A letter in your own handwriting
Free · Best for: every wife, every year. Not a printed card. One page: something she did this year that you noticed, something you are sorry about, something you are looking forward to. Date it. She will keep it longer than anything else on this list.
16. Take over the day
Free · Best for: a wife who runs the house. She is fasting, so you handle the school drop, the cooking for everyone else and the phone calls from relatives. Leave work early. Be on the terrace before the moon is.
What should you gift on her first Karwa Chauth?
For a first Karwa Chauth, choose something that will last and that marks the year: a piece with your wedding date, a framed photo from the wedding, or an everlasting bouquet. In many families her parents and in-laws also send gifts, so yours should be the personal one.
The first one is watched more closely than any that follow. Relatives call, photographs are taken, and she is often in a new home doing this for the first time. Two things help more than the gift. Ask your mother in advance what the family's customs are, so your wife is not left guessing. And be home early.
What to write on a personalised Karwa Chauth gift
Keep it short. A personalised piece has room for one idea, and the shorter the wording, the larger and clearer the letters. Names and dates age well. Long quotes and lines from this year's film songs do not.
| Piece | What fits | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Keychain | One name, or a name and a date | Ananya · 14.02.2026 |
| Handkerchief | One to three initials | A, or A.R. |
| Photo frame | A date or a place under the photo | Jaipur, December 2025 |
| Wall clock | Both names and the wedding date | Ananya & Rohan · Est. 2026 |
| Bouquet tag | A short line in your own words | For every fast you kept. R. |
| T-shirt | A phrase of two to four words | Chai first |
A few short lines to start from: "Mera chand", "Always, R.", "First of many" for a first Karwa Chauth, or simply the date you met. Whatever you choose, type it out exactly, with the capitals and the dots where you want them. Our guide to choosing a personalised handmade gift has more on wording and on checking the proof.
When should you give the gift?
Give the gift after the moon has risen and she has broken her fast with water and the first bite of food. That is the traditional moment, and it is also the kind one: she has not eaten all day, and a gift handed over at six in the evening gets a tired smile.
- Morning: tell her if you are fasting with her. Do not give the gift yet.
- Evening puja: stay nearby, and keep your phone away.
- Moonrise: water first, then food. Let her eat.
- After dinner: the gift and the letter, when the relatives have stopped taking photographs.
What if you are in another city?
If you are travelling or posted elsewhere, send the gift straight to her with gift wrap and a note, and plan a video call for moonrise in her city. Give the courier her phone number and a delivery date of 26 or 27 October, not the day itself.
Many couples now do the moon-and-sieve moment on a video call. If that is your plan, test the call beforehand and keep a second option ready. Ask a sibling or a friend in her city to be your hands: they can receive the parcel, hide it, and hand it over when you say so.
What if you have left it too late?
If it is too late for a personalised order, skip it, or message us to ask what can still be ready. A rushed piece made without a proof is how names get misspelled. Buy something handmade that is ready to go, and make it personal with what you write.
- A ready-made everlasting bouquet or a bunch of fresh red roses on the day, with a handwritten tag.
- Earrings or a dupatta from a local craft shop or exhibition.
- Her mehndi booking, if any artist still has a slot.
- The letter. It needs a pen, a page and twenty minutes.
What to skip
A few things we would leave out:
- Kitchen appliances. A mixer is a household purchase, not a gift for her.
- The photo mug. Everyone has two. Put the photo in a frame.
- A gift card with nothing else. It tells her you ran out of time. If you do give one, wrap it with a letter.
- Anything in a size you are guessing. A wrong size turns a gift into an errand.
- Whatever you bought last year, again.

Questions people ask
What is the best Karwa Chauth gift for a wife?
The best gift is something she will use or see every day with one personal detail on it: a keychain with her name, a wall clock with your wedding date, a framed photo of the two of you or an everlasting bouquet. Add a note in your own handwriting. The thought counts for more than the price.
When is Karwa Chauth in 2026?
Karwa Chauth is on Thursday 29 October 2026, according to Drik Panchang for New Delhi. The fast runs from sunrise to moonrise that day. Some sites list Wednesday 28 October, moonrise is at a different time in each city, and festival dates can vary by a day between regions, so check your local panchang for the exact timings.
What can I gift my wife on Karwa Chauth under ₹500?
Under ₹500, choose a resin keychain with her name, a handkerchief with her initial, a small frame with one photo, a pair of handmade earrings, or book and pay for her mehndi. Pair any of these with a handwritten letter, which costs nothing and is usually what she keeps.
What should I gift on our first Karwa Chauth after marriage?
For a first Karwa Chauth, pick something lasting that marks the year: a piece with your wedding date on it, a framed wedding photograph or an everlasting bouquet. Her parents and in-laws often send traditional gifts, so yours should be the personal one. Be home early, too.
How early should I order a personalised Karwa Chauth gift?
Order about two weeks ahead. For Karwa Chauth on 29 October 2026, that meant around Thursday 15 October. A made-to-order piece needs a design proof, a few working days of making and a few more for delivery. If you are later than that, message us to ask what can still be ready, or choose a handmade gift that is not personalised.
When should a husband give the Karwa Chauth gift?
Give it after moonrise, once she has seen the moon, taken water and eaten something. That is the traditional moment for the gift. If you are keeping the fast with her, tell her in the morning, but keep the gift itself for the evening.
